Restaurants & Brew Pubs
We are not simply a bunch of caching fools around here, and this
page is devoted to some of our favorite places to grab a bite to
eat or sip a cold drink after a day of caching. If you are going
to start anywhere you might as well begin with McMenamins.
With pubs all over the Portland Metro area, it's not hard to find
one. For starters, you might head over to The
Barley Mill, the oldest in the McMenamin chain. Cheap grub and
great people watching make this a local favorite. If you are way
out on the Westside, you might try Imbrie
Hall, which may be the only good pub out there in Hillsboro.
While
we are not Klingon wannabes, we can't help but recommend Bodacious
Classics, on Thursday nights for Klingon
karaoke. Catch Qoalin belting out Bad to the Bone in
his native tongue.
Not into such enterprises? May we then suggest catching a movie
at one of the local Theater
Pubs. Good drinks, food, and a recent movie can be partaken
of at places like The
Baghdad, The
Mission & The
Laurelhurst Theaters.
If you post a note in the Northwest Forums of Geocaching.com that
you will be headed to Cassidy's
or Maya's
there is a greater than average chance that a local cacher will
respond and meet you there, especially if there is a free round
of magaritas or calamari involved. These two establishments have
become consistent choices for the original Wednesday Night Spike
crew (which causes some to plead incessantly about other nights
of the week).
Finally,
some other notables. Our guide on the town notes that The
Rogue Public House may be the best microbrewery in the Northwest.
The
Moon & Sixpence in the Hollywood district has a huge selection
of European beers, and a large patio for early evening dining. The
Lucky Lab Pub on lower Hawthorne sports a dog friendly bar in
town. The Tugboat
Brewery is close to the Days Inn downtown, and occassionally
has cool bluegrass music. Bridgeport
Ales (in the Pearl District) is full of rowdy rugby players
and great pizza. Portland
Brewing Company offers the best pub food around, and the added
bonus of a beer dock on the back of the building to pick up cases
of NW brews. And if you are coming from the Eastcoast, you might
want to check out Philadelphia's
in Sellwood. Enjoy some beer from Portland's smallest microbrew,
and make fun of our version of a cheesesteak sandwich.
Honestly though, if you still aren't sure where to go just contact
our local
expert and guide.
